Syria’s musicians celebrate including Qudoud Halabiya in UNESCO world heritage list

A musical evening was held on Friday by a group of Syrian musicians marking the inclusion of  Qudoud Halabiya in UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Syria Trust for Development at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus.

The Syrian National Band for Arabic Music, led by Maestro Adnan Fathallah, as well as renowned Syrian singers from different Syrian provinces and students of music institutes took part in this evening to convey a message stressing that Qudoud Halabiya is a great legacy for the coming generations and that it enjoys complete support by the government and civil society organizations with the aim of preserving it.

 In a statement at the opening of the event,  Minister of Culture Lubanah Mshawweh said that Qudoud Halabiya, which is a combination of the rich and diverse Syrian identity, has become an inscribed human heritage that no one has the right to deny its origin or home.

“This Syrian heritage has become a trust that all of us should shoulder the responsibility to pass it on, like a precious jewel, to future generations to preserve and protect it from disappearance and distortion,” the miniuster added.
