DAMASCUS, (ST) -Vice President of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Bahaa Eddin Hassan confirmed that the former visit of the President of Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Chairman’s coming visit of the Board of Directors of Cosmos International Ltd Company at the end of this month to Syria comes in the framework of the development and consolidation of trade relations between India and Syria.
“The value of our imports from India amounted to 30 billion Syrian pounds in 2012 compared with 691 million Syrian pounds of exports which included lentils, cumin seeds, chickpeas and uncombed cotton,” Mr. Hassan added.
“The proportion of our imports from India amounts to 4% of the total imports,” pointing out that the imports from India have seen significant improvement since 2007,” he said,
“Some agreements with several countries, including India, are discussed currently to facilitate commodity exchange and the reduction of customs tariffs similar to the agreements with the Arab Trade Zone,” Hassan clarified.
It is noteworthy that India has provided a loan of U.S. $ 100 million for financing projects in the food industry, poultry sector and the development of livestock in Syria and currently concerned bodies in collaboration with the Planning and International Cooperation Association are discussing studies that included a map of the objectives and priorities for these projects.
