Syria’s Enemies Are Themselves the Enemies of al-Quds: Grand Mufti

LATTAKIA, (ST)- Grand Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun has stressed that Syria’s enemies are themselves the enemies of al-Quds, and as they failed in dividing Syria they will fail in dividing al-Quds or in deviating the attention of the Arab people from their real compass.

He made the remarks during a symposium held on Sunday in Lattakia to voice solidarity with the occupied Palestinian city of al-Quds after US President Donald Trump’s recent decision and to stress that this holy city will continue to be the eternal capital city of Palestine.

Mor Ignatius Aphrem II,  Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East and the Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, also took part in the symposium.

The mufti said that Trump’s recognition of al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli occupation entity served only personal and political interests and that this move won’t affect the Palestinians’ right in this city or their right to return to their homeland.

On his part, Patriarch Aphrem II affirmed that Trump’s decision didn’t take peoples interests into consideration and it violated international laws and historical facts which confirm that al-Quds is an occupied city.

He pointed out that the decision harms the symbol  of al-Quds as a spiritual city and as a meeting place for the heavenly religions, the Patriarch said, adding that targeting al-Quds and Palestine is part of the scheme that has been targeting the entire region and which Syria has confronted to prevent the fragmentation of the region.
