Syria, Russia sign academic cooperation agreement 

Damascus University and the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Tuesday signed an academic cooperation agreement.

The agreement aims at strengthening cooperation in protecting cultural heritage, especially the archaeological heritage, in the two countries, and at establishing contacts between archaeologists, researchers, renovators and museum workers of the two countries with the aim of expanding and boosting scientific and cultural ties.

The agreement also aims at encouraging contacts between concerned organizations, museums and institutions in Syria and Russia in order to support joint activities in the fields of antiquities. It  calls for organizing exhibitions, symposiums and conferences to develop scientific projects and education programs and to provide internal training for students and academics.

According to the 3-year agreement, the two sides will exchange information on various events, legislations, printed and electronic media outlets, future projects and archaeological activities.

The agreement was signed by Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Osama Al-Jabban and Deputy Director of the Russian Institute Natalia Solovyova.
