Syria, Russia sign a joint declaration on “ways of confronting and mitigating the negative effects of unilateral coercive measures”
NEW YORK, SEP.28, ( ST)-Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov bilateral cooperation between Syria and Russia, especially in the economic field, noting the importance of holding meetings of the joint governmental committee between the two countries as soon as possible.
During their meeting in New York, the two sides discussed the joint efforts being made by the two countries within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral bodies, to confront the West’s collective attempts to undermine the provisions of the UN Charter, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The two ministers also reviewed the current situation in the Middle East region in light of the recent Israeli escalation in Lebanon, the continuing attacks on Syrian territory besides the continuing war on the Palestinian people.
In this regard, the two minister agreed on the necessity of full adherence to the principles of international law, the provisions and principles of the UN Charter, and respect for the sovereignty of states and the unity and integrity of their territories.
Sabbagh and Lavrov signed a joint declaration on “ways of confronting and mitigating the negative effects of unilateral coercive measures,” which included, among other things, an affirmation that any country’s resort to unilateral coercive measures is illegal, and contradicts the UN Charter and the provisions of the agreement.
The declaration called for developing a road map to reduce the dependence of international trade on national currencies that may be used to implement unilateral coercive measures or to support the monetary hegemony of a particular country over the global economy, and to hold responsible for compensation for damages to the affected country as a result of economic or financial losses resulting from the imposition of unilateral coercive measures. side.
The declaration stressed that government and private property and assets, including bank accounts, bonds, and real estate, as well as diplomatic and consular headquarters and facilities, must be immune from any freezing, confiscation, or restriction resulting from the implementation of unilateral coercive measures.
