Syria, Russia Reject western countries’ False and Misleading Statement About the Alleged Douma Incident
Damascus (ST) – Syria and Russia have affirmed their rejection of the statement made by the United States, Britain, France and Germany, which is full of misleading and distorted facts about the alleged incident of using chemical weapons in Douma in Damascus countryside in April 2018. They stressed that the statement exposes once again the aggressive goals of these countries towards Syria and Russia, and their destructive policies to aggravate the situation in the Middle East and the world at large.
The Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad and Sergey Lavrov, stated in a joint statement that the Foreign ministers of the United States, Britain, France, and Germany, issued a statement full of misleading and falsified facts about using chlorine in the city of Douma on April 7, 2018 which was fabricated by the White Helmets organization that claims relief work in Syria and has close links to the terrorist organizations.”
Al-Mikdad and Lavrov noted that the aforementioned western countries have showed their support for the report of the so-called Investigation and Identification Team, which is a mechanism imposed by the collective West on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), on the chemical attack that was allegedly carried out by Syrian Air Forces on civilians under a cover-up by Russia.
The two ministers added that the statement is another step to escalate pressure on both Syria and Russia.
“We believe that the release of a new fake report on a provocation using chemical weapons in Douma is nothing but a new attempt to justify the tripartite aggression against sovereign Syria, which was launched by the United States, Britain and France on April 14, 2018 by launching a missile attack on Syrian civilian and military facilities, in violation of the UN Charte and the provisions of international law.
Al-Mikdad and Lavrov recalled that the OPCW’s Investigation and Identification Team was established in contrary to the Chemical Weapons Convention, and despite big pressure by Western countries on the OPCW member states, less than half of the organization’s members voted in favor of establishing this team, stressing that the quartet’s statement is stripping again the aggressive goals of these countries towards Syria and Russia and their destructive policies to aggravate the situation in the Middle East and the world at large.
They reiterated that Syria and Russia are against using chemical weapons anywhere, at any time, by whoever and under any circumstances, expressing the two countries’ condemnation of the new false statement of the United States, Britain, France, and Germany, and their total rejection of the accusations that lack credibility.
They also asserted their rejection of the policies of these countries which aim to replace the Charter of the United Nations and the international law with what it calls “a system based on rules” that prove a leading role for the countries of NATO and the European Union in defining the main criteria for the political, economic, scientific, technical, human and moral development of global civilization.
Al-Mikdad and Lavrov pointed out that the United States is the only country that has so far retained chemical weapons, and is doing everything in its power to prolong the process of its chemical disarmament, despite its financial and technical capabilities.
