Syria, Russia Electricity Cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST) – The Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis underlined “Syria’s desire to develop the distinctive historical relations with Russia and push them to wider horizons of joint cooperation in various fields, especially in the field of power sector.”

During a meeting with the Russian ambassador in Damascus Azmatollah Kolmahmedov held here recently, the ambassador said that it was agreed to form a joint committee for cooperation in the field of electricity.

The minister pointed out to the importance of developing cooperation in the field of electricity through the exchange of scientific expertise and training and to invite Russian companies to participate in the reconstruction of the electricity sector and contribute to the implementation of electrical projects approved for the development of the reality of the electricity sector in the field of transport, generation and distribution.

He also expressed his thanks to the Russian government and people for standing by the Syrian people.

For his part, the Russian ambassador confirmed that “his country’s position will not change from the crisis in Syria,” and hoped the crisis ends in the near future, and the return of security and stability throughout all Syria.

The ambassador pointed to the importance of continuing to develop the bilateral relations between both countries and peoples in various fields, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the Syrian government.

The meeting included an agreement on the mechanism of joint work between the two countries through the Joint Syrian-Russian Higher Committee and at the end of the meeting the Minister handed the Russian ambassador a copy of the strategic vision for the development of the electricity sector in Syria.
