Syria, Russia discuss new prospect of all-out cooperation

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria and Russia have discussed new prospects of economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation and agreed on eliminating all obstacles that hamper implementing cooperation agreements. They also discussed enhancing coordination to confront the economic siege imposed on Syria.

Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, during a meeting on Monday with a Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, stressed Syria’s keenness on expanding economic cooperation with Russia and its willingness to provide all facilitations to the Russian companies that will participate in Syria’s reconstruction process.

 He voiced the Syrian government and people’s gratitude to the Russian leadership, government and people for supporting Syria in confronting the brutal terrorist war that has been facing it.

On his part, Borisov affirmed that Russia will continue supporting Syria in all domains, mainly in reconstruction, in confronting the western sanctions and economic blockade and in restoring the state’s control over all its territories.

He underlined that Russia and Syria need to sign new agreements that will help ease the repercussions of the economic siege imposed on the Syrian people.

During a press conference held yesterday afternoon between Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Borisov said that Russia’s draft agreements with Syria provide for expanding cooperation in 40 new projects alongside rebuilding the infrastructure of the energy sector in the country.

He added that a Russian company had signed a contract with the Syrian side to drill for gas and oil off the Syrian shores.

Borisov pointed out that “the most important reason for the tragic situation in Syria is the devastating position of the United States, in addition to the Kurds’ unwillingness to have contacts with Damascus and restore the control over agricultural areas and oil fields to the legitimate Syrian government”.
