Syria and Russia on Saturday held talks on ways to boost economic cooperation and trade exchange.
The talks were held within a meeting between Syria’s Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Amro Salem and Head of the Russian-Syrian Businessmen Council Louay Yusuf and President of the Russian “Komaks” Trading Company Konstantin Basyuk.
The discussions focused on the possibility of exchanging some Syrian products, such as olive oil and citrus fruits for Russian products such as sunflower oil and other basic materials needed by the Syrian market.
Focus was also put on establishing a Russian trade center in one of the halls of the Syrian Trading Establishment and a similar Syrian one in Russia. The aim is to promote the products of each side.
Salem stressed the important role of the Russian-Syrian Businessmen Council in reactivating cooperation between the two countries and in opening new prospects for ensuring the two countries’ needs of products, mainly food materials.
On his part, head of the businessmen council stressed the council’s willingness to play an active role in ensuring the needs of the Syrian local market of different products at competitive prices.
Basyuk said that the Syrian products and industries are of good quality, but need better marketing, stressing that establishing a Russian trade center in Syria and vice versa will help introduce the products of both countries.
