Syria retrieves 5 looted artifacts

Syria retrieved on Thursday 5 artifacts that were tooted from Palmyra city during the terrorist ISIS organization’s capture of the city.

The artifacts were handed over to the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums (GDAM) within an initiative from the “Nabu” museum in Lebanon, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The agency quoted the Lebanese Minister of Culture Mohammad Wisam Al-Murtada as saying – during the ceremony of handing over the artifacts in The National Museum of Beirut- that the artifacts shows the story of human civilization, stressing that Lebanese and Syrian peoples are one people living in two countries.

” Cooperation between Lebanon and Syria in this field is essential as the Zionists, who have usurped Palestine, are trying to usurp our civilization and cultural heritage.., We must face this through intellectual resistance,” the minister said.

For his part, Syria’s Ambassador in Beirut Ali Abdul Kareem said that the initiative of the “Nabu” museum reflects respect to ancient civilization and antiquities that shape the image of this region.

He added that the restoration of Palmyra antiquities reflects the recovery of Syria after around 11 years of steadfastness.

The ambassador pointed out that Syria preserved most of the antiquities and transported them to the National Museum in Damascus and to other museums that were not hit by terrorism.
