Syria renews its position in support of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establishing their independent state
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad has reaffirmed Syria’s principled and firm stance in support of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establishing their independent state on their entire national territory, with Jerusalem as its capital, including the right of refugees to return to their homes.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Committee for the Exercise of the Palestinian People’s Inalienable Rights, Ambassador Cheikh Ning in New York on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Dr. Al-Miqdad said: “I would like to extend my great thanks and appreciation to you for your efforts in holding an important annual meeting, which is the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.”
Dr. Al-Miqdad expressed his appreciation for the great efforts made by the committee to implement the international legitimacy decisions related to the Palestinian issue.
Dr. Al- Miqdad said that the Syrian Arab Republic considers the Palestinian issue is the central cause in order to expose the practices of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
Dr. Al-Miqdad reaffirmed the Syrian Arab Republic’s principled and steadfast position in support of the right of the Palestinian people in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1948, which is a right that is not subject to statute of limitations.
Minister Mikdad emphasized that the Israeli settlement in the occupied Arab lands and the Israeli practices that accompanied the destruction of occupied villages and cities and the displacement of their inhabitants to replace Israeli settlers in their place formed the essence of the policy pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities since the first day of their occupation of Palestine and the Syrian Arab Golan.
Dr. Al-Miqdad pointed out that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is gaining this year a special importance in light of the serious developments that threaten the Palestinian cause.
He said that despite the relevant UN resolutions, no progress has been made by the international community in ending the Israeli occupation of Arab lands.
He added that the Israeli occupation authorities have not been held accountable for their occupation, violations and contempt of the rules of international law and the United Nations Charter and those decisions because of the protection umbrella it provides.
Dr. Al-Miqdad affirmed the Syrian Arab Republic’s rejection and condemnation of the so-called “Deal of the Century” and war crimes against humanity committed by “Israel”.
Dr. Al-Miqdad concluded his message by saying: “ I would like to address the member states of the United Nations and urge them to shoulder their responsibilities towards the plight of the Palestinian people and to take concrete and serious steps to confront the atrocity of what the Israeli occupation is doing.”
Dr. Al-Miqdad called to hold “Israel” the occupying power accountable for its systematic violations and to exert pressure on it to end its unjust siege imposed on the Palestinian people in Gaza and to end the occupation by “Israel” of Arab lands and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, foremost among which are UN Security Council Resolutions No. 242, No. 338 and No. 497.
