Syria reiterates that Israel’s occupation of Arab lands poses threat to international security and stability
Syria has blamed the United Nations Security Council for its failure to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, stressing that this occupation poses a threat to the international security and stability.
In a statement presented on Tuesday to the UNSC during a session on the situation in the Middle East, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and Syria’s permanent representative Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari said: ” Despite the passing of more than five decades on the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands, the occupation still exists until today in a clear indication of the failure of Security Council in assuming its responsibility to end the occupation which poses a threat to stability and security of the region.
He added: “54 years have passed and the UN Security council failed to hold Israeli occupation accountable for its hostile acts against our citizens in the occupied Arab lands under the protection of some western permanent members at the UN, mainly the United States.”
Dr. Al-Jaafari pointed out that the previous US Administration of Donald Trump adopted provocative and illegitimate measures to change the political and legal situations of the occupied Arab lands, but these measures were denounced by Syria and the majority of the UNSC member states.
He asserted that the Israeli occupation forces have escalated their attacks on Syria violating the UN resolution No.350 for the year 1975.
Dr, Al-Jaafari referred to the recent Israeli attack on the vicinity of Hama city where a family composed of a father, a mother and 2 children were martyred and four members of the same family were wounded.
“In less than one year, the Israeli occupation forces carried out more than 50 attacks, killing and injuring a huge number of civilians and destroying their properties. These attacks coincided with violations of human rights in the occupied Syrian Golan in an attempt to consolidate its control over the area,” he clarify.
The diplomat indicated that the Israeli occupation forces pressurize Golan’s students, who are studying in Europe or those who come back to spend the vacation with their families to accept the Israeli identity or they will be prevented from travelling abroad to continue their study.
He affirmed that the Israeli occupation forces work on expanding the so-called the ” Trump Settlement” in Al- Qan’abah town in the occupied Syrian Golan.
“Since the start of the last month and until today, the Israeli occupation forces transported scores of Israeli settlers to the New settlement in an attempt to obliterate the identity of the occupied Syrian Golan,” Dr. Al- Jaafari stated.
He underscored that Syria rejects the arbitrary and unfair verdict of the Israeli occupation authorities on June 10th, 2020 which sentenced to three years of imprisonment for Nihal Al-Makt, sister of the freed prisoner, Sadqi al-Maqt.
Dr. Al-Jaafari appealed to the UN Security Council to take urgent action to ensure the implementation of Resolution No. 497 of 1981, and force the Israeli occupation entity to stop its settlement practices and its repressive procedures against Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan and withdraw from the entire occupied Golan until the line of June 4th, 1967.
