DAMASCUS, (ST)- Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has regretted the UN Security Council’s silence over the crimes that have been perpetrated by the air force of the so-called US-led anti terror coalition against Syrian civilians and infrastructure.
In a new development, an airstrike carried out on Tuesday by the international coalition’s warplanes on al-Mansura city in the Syrian province of Raqqa targeted a school housing displaced families from Aleppo, Raqqa and Palmyra. More than 32 women and children were killed and tens of other civilians were wounded in the attack which also led to the destruction of the school.
In two identical letters to the UN Chief and President of the Security Council, the ministry condemned the new crime, stressing that it is part of the coalition’s attacks against Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity under the pretext of fighting terrorism. The letters urged the Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities towards putting an end to the coalition’s massacres, acts of destruction which completely contradict the coalition’s counter terrorism claims.
According to the ministry, the illegal coalition, which was established without coordination with the Syrian government or mandate from the Security Council, has committed several crimes against the Syrians in some towns and villages of Aleppo northern countryside, Deir Ezzour, Raqqa and other Syrian areas. These attacks claimed the lives of hundreds of people, injured hundreds others and caused material damage to public and private properties and to the infrastructure , the ministry said, regretting the silence and inaction of the United Nations and the Security Council over these massacres.
The ministry concluded the letters by saying that Syria affirms that fighting terrorism necessitates, if intentions were sincere, complete coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government, unifying anti-terror efforts and implementing the Security Council resolution 2253 which urges international efforts to confront terrorism threat and dry up terrorism resources.
