Syria receives 500.000 doses of Chinese Covid vaccine

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ The Ministry of Health received on Sunday half million doses of Chinese Anti-Covid Sinopharm vaccine, according to the Syria n Arab News Agency (SANA). 

 

The agency quoted the Minister of Health Hasan Al-Ghabbash as saying that the half million doses are the third batch sent by China and it is very important at this time to expand the national vaccine campaign against Corona virus.

 

The minister affirmed that the Chines vaccine is safe and it is given as 2 doses with interval of 3 weeks between the first and second dose. 

 

He pointed out that the ministry will launch a new vaccine campaign to allow people to go directly to health center to be vaccinated, adding the 600.000 people are vaccinated so far. 

 

The minister asserted that no case of death has been recorded among the vaccinated people in Syria. He thanked the Chinese government and people for offering medical aid and doses of vaccine to Syria since the start of the spread of the pandemic.

 

For his part, the Chines Ambassador in Damascus Feng Biao said that his country sent 800.000 doses of vaccine to Syria and it will send 1.000.000 doses to it in the near future. 

 

The total number of infections detected in the country till now has reached up to 46,130 , of which 27,583 have recovered, while the fatalities have amounted to 2661”, the Ministry said in a statement released yesterday.
