Syria receives 160 tons of Russian humanitarian aid, including 250,000 doses of “Sputnik Light” vaccine
160 tons of humanitarian aid provided by Russia to the Syrian Arab Republic arrived on Saturday at Damascus International Airport.
According to SANA, the Russian aid includes 250,000 doses of the “Sputnik Light” vaccine as well as medical supplies that have to do with laboratory tests with the aim of detecting the Corona virus and that are enough for testing one million swabs.
Director of the Russian National Defense Management Center Mikhail Mezentsev said during a ceremony held to hand over the aid that his country will continue to support Syria, Russia’s close ally and strategic partner in the Middle East.
Mezentsev also expressed his country’s support for the return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland, pointing out that the difficult economic situation from which the Syrian people are currently suffering has been caused by the western countries’ policy of imposing coercive economic measures on them.
He indicated that the Russian humanitarian aid includes food materials, healthcare supplies and school stationery.
On his part, Minister of Local Administration and Environment in the caretaking government Hussein Makhlouf thanked Russia for the humanitarian aid which confirms the deep and close cooperation between the two countries.
Hassan Al-Ghabbash, Health Minister in the caretaking government, said in a statement to SANA that the Russian side provided a significant amount of aid in terms of quantity and quality. It included 250,000 doses of the “Sputnik Light” vaccine, which is an advanced and modern single-dose vaccine, in addition to one million “PCR” test kits to detect the Covid-19 virus.
