Syria receives 1000 tonnes of rice as a gift from India

LATTAKIA,(ST)_Syria received on Thursday 1000 tonnes of Indian rice as the first batch of humanitarian aid from the government and people of India. 
 
The first batch included half of the  quantity of the rice to be sent to Syria as a gift from India and reflects the friendly relations between the two countries. 
 
Minister of Local Administration and Environment Hussien Makhlouf, who chairs the Higher Relief  Committee, thanked Indian people and government for supporting Syria, referring  to the fact that India stands by Syria in all international meetings. 
 
He asserted that the rice will be distributed among the people affected by terrorism in all Syrian governorates. 
 
For his part, India’s Ambassador to Syria Hefz Al-Rahman said that his country has a firm stance towards the need to reach a political solution that preserves Syria’s sovereignty  and territorial integrity. 
 
He pointed out that the war in Syria caused damage to its infrastructures and this was followed by the outbreak of COVID-19. 
 
The Ambassador indicated that the second batch of rice (1000tonnes) will arrive in Syria in a week.
