Syria Ready to Provide All Forms of Support to Make WFP Task in Syria a Success

DAMASCUS– Prime Minister Imad Khamis said on Tuesday that the Syrian government is open to cooperate with different humanitarian organizations, adding Syria is also ready to provide all kinds of support to make the task of the World Food Program (WFP), in delivering aid to the Syrian people, a success, SANA reported.

Premier Khamis made his remarks during a meeting with the new WFP Executive director David Beasley and the accompanying delegation.

 The two sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation and means to further enhance them in a way that serves the implementation of the WFP plan in Syria.

Premier Khamis reviewed the government’s efforts to empower Syrian families and provide support to them through spreading family farming, home gardens, rural women projects, micro-enterprises and small handicraft workshops.

He underlined the importance of putting more pressure on the western governments to end the siege imposed on the Syrian people, noting that Syria has great expertise in dealing with humanitarian crises caused by wars.

For his part, Beasley said that the visit aims at boosting cooperation with the Syrian government to meet the needs of the Syrian people, hailing the continued cooperation and coordination between the WFP team and the Syrian government in this regard.

Makhlouf: Syrian government bears the largest burden to secure humanitarian aid to citizens

In this regard, Local Administration and Environment Minister Hussein Makhlouf said that Syrian government bears the largest burden to secure the humanitarian and food needs to those affected  by the terrorist war, adding Syria provides the international organizations, operating in the relief field, with necessary facilities to deliver the humanitarian aid to the people in need.

Makhlouf also discussed with Beasley and the accompanying delegation cooperation in the relief and humanitarian fields and means of developing this cooperation.

The Minister referred to the exerted efforts by the Syrian government to provide the health and educational services to the citizens and acts of rehabilitation of the infrastructure that has been destroyed by terrorism.

He also praised the efforts of the WFP in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) within the response plan when they distributed 304879 food baskets in last January and 294076 food baskets during last February in addition to distributing quantities of flour, high energy biscuits and canned food.

Beasley, on his part, affirmed the need to continue delivering the Humanitarian and food aid to Qamishli city in the north-eastern part of Syria.
