Baku (ST) – As part of the twenty-ninth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 29” in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, Syria is participating in the World Climate Summit with a delegation headed by Eng. Louay Kharita, Minister of Local Administration and Environment.
During his participation in the ministerial round-table meeting on enhancing ambition in climate change mitigation measures until 2030 during the high-level ministerial segment, Minister Kharita said: “Within the framework of enhancing ambition to reach implementable results, we focus on developed countries and major companies fulfilling their obligations through financing, technology transfer, and supporting the capabilities of developing countries to fulfill their obligations and nationally determined contributions.”
He pointed to the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the environment and development in Syria, stressing the need to cancel these measures and end the foreign occupation of Syrian lands.
As for harnessing the results of the work at “COP 29”, Kharita stressed the need to update the nationally determined contributions, taking into account the capabilities and circumstances of each country and shared responsibility.
Kharita stressed the need to support mitigation measures, emphasizing the importance of adaptation measures and pursuing them to achieve the required balance.
