The meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement began this morning in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in preparation for the movement’s 19th summit due to be held next Friday and Saturday, with the participation of Syria ‘s delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh.
The meeting discusses developments on the international arena , most notably the serious developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, in addition to political and economic issues of common interest to the movement’s member states.
The participating delegations are also working on drafting the summit’s final document and the Kampala Political Declaration, which will include the movement’s stances concerning various issues and challenges.
The Non-Aligned Movement includes 121 countries. It held its first conference in Belgrade in 1961, and was established on the basis of the Bandung Principles of 1955, which emphasize the principles of sovereignty and equality between countries, non-interference in internal affairs, and rejection of the use of force or the threat in international relations.
