Syria participates in the final session of the Committee to Establish an International Convention to Combat the Use of Information and Communications Technology for Criminal Purposes

Syria is participating in the resumed final session, which is the eighth session of the Committee for the Establishment of a Comprehensive International Convention on Combating the Use of Information and Communications Technology for Criminal Purposes.
The session, which began in New York on July 29 and will continue until August 9, will result in the signing of an international convention to prevent and combat crimes related to the misuse of information and communications technology, enhance international cooperation in combating them, and provide technical assistance and capacity building to prevent and combat these crimes.
In a speech during the session, the head of the participating Syrian delegation, Brigadier General Dr. Yasser Kalzi, stressed the necessity for the future convention to reflect the concerns of countries, reconcile different opinions and trends, and create an international mechanism for international cooperation, far from any conflicts that do not serve the main goal of the convention, which is to combat the steady growth of these crimes and respect the sovereignty of countries and their national laws.
Kalzi pointed out that the current draft does not cover serious crimes, especially those related to committing terrorist crimes using information and communications technology.
Kalzi indicated that Syria supports reaching a consensus formula for a comprehensive, balanced and integrated draft international convention that meets the concerns of all countries.
