Syria participates in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics

With the participation of Syria, the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics which is organized by Indonesia via the Internet,  was held on Tuesday  with the participation of about 50 countries.

The tests were conducted at Ebla Hotel in Damascus over four straight hours at the same time with other participating countries. The tests  included high-level equations in algebra, geometry and analysis studies.

Nabog Yassin, director of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, confirmed that they were directly linked to the Asian Scientific Committee for the Olympics in Indonesia via the Internet in order to answer the required inquiries. She added that the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics is the strongest international competition after the World Olympiad.

She indicated that all the members of the Syrian team for the Mathematical Olympiad, who number 30 students from various governorates, represent Syria in the Olympiad.

She noted  that the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Mathematics in the Syrian Scientific Olympiad will correct the answer sheets and send the best ten results to the Asian Scientific Committee to measure them with the best ten results from each country and then the final results and the winners will be announced.

During its participation in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad for Mathematics, which was organized by Mexico last year, the Syrian team achieved three silver medals, two bronze medals and four certificates of appreciation.

The participation in this Olympiad is an important preparatory step for the Syrian Olympiad team, as part of its readiness to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which is scheduled to be held in Russia next July.
