Syria participates in the 3rd Belt and Road conference for international cooperation

BEIJING, Oct.17, (ST)- The 3rd International Cooperation Conference for the Belt and Road Initiative (One Belt – One Road) was launched today with the participation of Syria in the Chinese capital, Beijing, under the title “High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation: Together for Common Development and Prosperity”.

The two-day event is being held on the 10th  anniversary of the initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

It will discuss the progress achieved by the initiative, its significant economic and social impact on sustainable development in member states, and its role in increasing economic growth, creating job opportunities, increasing investment and trade, and the spread of transportation and shipping lines besides  developing cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism and improving the standard of living and the well-being of the population.

The Syrian-Chinese Business Council is participating in the conference in which 4,000 participants representing delegations from 140 countries and more than 30 international organizations, including presidents of republics and governments and heads of organizations. International, ministerial officials and representatives of the business community are taking part.

Syria joined the initiative in January 2022 in a memorandum of understanding signed with China to deepen cooperation between the two countries and benefit from the contribution of Chinese companies to economic reconstruction and social development in Syria.

It is noteworthy that the initiative opened horizons for cooperation between China and member states and created the largest infrastructure project in the history of mankind after it presented a set of proposals to connect sea and land routes to facilitate trade exchange with neighboring countries, establish commercial zones, power stations, a large unified market, and develop cultural exchange and enhancing understanding between member states.
