Syria participates in dialogue sessions in Amman on the role of Arab cultural bodies in the light of current challenges
In order to enhance cooperation and develop a strategy for joint cultural and intellectual work between a number of cultural and intellectual institutions, several intellectual and cultural dialogue sessions were held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, at the invitation of the Arab Thought Forum.
The Forum was attended by the Chairman of the Arab Writers Union in Syria Muhammad Al-Hourani, the Chairmen of the Writers Unions of a number of Arab countries, and the President of the Writers Union of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
A number of researchers, thinkers, and studies centers, as well as some officials, heads of previous governments, ministers and ambassadors, also attended the dialogue sessions.
In the opening session, Dr. Al-Sadiq Al-Faqih, Secretary-General of the Arab Thought Forum, spoke about the beginnings of the establishment of the forum in 1981 and the efforts made by the forum in most Arab countries to unify and develop intellectual discourse and cultural action.
The first axis of the dialogue sessions program, “Towards a New Arab Thought,” was devoted to discussing the current problems of the Arab intellectual scene. The speakers emphasized the need to work on a comprehensive Arab civilizational intellectual project stemming from the awareness of intellectuals and thinkers of different ideological orientations, within an integrated institutional framework at the level of Arab countries.
In the session dedicated to renewing the Arab renaissance discourse, Prince Hassan bin Talal spoke about the great dangers facing the Arab world, calling on intellectual, cultural, and political institutions to be aware of the threats facing Arab countries.
The Prince presented a set of special maps that expose the divisive and fragmenting plans aimed at destroying and fragmenting countries. The Prince gave an important part of his speech and explanation, with pictures, of the maps and plans aimed at undermining and dividing Syria, emphasizing the need for awareness and mobilizing forces to confront these dangerous plans.
The participants in the dialogue sessions discussed ways to enhance the role of Arab cultural bodies in facing current challenges, especially through unifying the cultural and intellectual discourse related to the major issues of the nation.
In the context of coordination with intellectual and cultural institutions and unifying their discourse, the Chairman of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, gave a lecture at the International Affairs Association in Amman in cooperation with the Arab Thought Forum, entitled “New Liberalism.. The War on Morals and the Culture of Belonging”.
The lecture attended by a number of intellectuals, writers and ambassadors, and presented by Dr. Al-Sadiq Al-Faqih, Secretary-General of the Arab Thought Forum.
In appreciation of his effective cultural and intellectual efforts, both Arab and international, Dr. Muhammad Al-Houranipresented the Union’s shield to Dr. Al-Faqih, hoping that Arab cultural work will develop in a way that serves our issues and advances our institutions.
