SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Sep.29, (ST)- Syria participated in the Arab Conference on Retirement and Insurance in Sharm El-Sheikh, which started yesterday, under the auspices of the Ministries of Finance and Social Solidarity, and the National Social Insurance Authority in Egypt.
The Syrian delegation, who participated in the conference, included the Director General of the Insurance and Pensions Corporation Basem Al-Jajah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Social Insurance, and the membership of the Director General of the Social Insurance Corporation, Yahya Ahmed.
The delegation discussed trends and emerging issues for the two pension systems, and the safer and more sustainable retirement income.
The head of the Syrian delegation told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the two-day conference will review, during 12 dialogue sessions, a number of main topics, including: “the challenges and possible reforms for the sustainability of pensions in the Arab world, the expansion of insurance coverage, the redistribution of wealth, and the effects of the Corona pandemic on social insurance systems, lessons learned, the economics of insurance systems, and the volume of pension spending by 2050.”
The conference, which was held under the slogan “Prospects for Arab Retirement Systems for the Year 2050, Change and Opportunities”, was an opportunity to exchange experiences in confronting all the challenges facing the retirement systems in the Arab world, and how to overcome them.
Representatives of the Arab countries and the Arab Parliament from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan and the UAE and many international organizations took part in the conference.
