DAMASCUS, Jul.27, (ST)- Damascus University and the National University of Science and Technology in Pakistan signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cultural relations through academic and research exchange and to encourage student exchange on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
According to the signed memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in the field of exchanging professors, lecturers and researchers, exchanging students of all academic levels “university, graduate, master’s and doctoral students” and holding joint scientific and methodological conferences, seminars, workshops, training courses, scientific meetings and exhibitions in the fields agreed upon between the two sides.
Moreover, the two sides will cooperate in the field of exchanging publications, bulletins and periodicals issued by the two universities for the common interest, as well as the development and implementation of joint educational and research programs and projects and any other areas agreed upon between the two sides.
The validity of the memorandum is five years, and it could be extended.
The memo includes the implementation mechanism such as providing support to persons participating in programs by providing them with the required information and facilities and solving other problems related to organizational issues that should be carried out in accordance with the laws in force in both countries.
Speaking to reporters, the Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Osama Al-Jabban stressed the importance of cooperation with the National University of Science and Technology in Pakistan, as it includes qualitative specializations in the field of informatics, which will serve the interests of students in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as cooperation in the field of joint scientific research, which will reflect positively on external research publication that benefits and affects the university’s ranking.
For his part, the Ambassador of Pakistan in Damascus Saeed Muhammad Khan pointed out that the scientific and cultural cooperation will support the civilizational and cultural progress in the two countries, especially that the memorandum is signed with the prestigious Damascus University which is known for its long history in the world.
