Syria, Oman discuss cooperation in the field of antiquities and museums

During her visit to Oman, Minister of Culture Lubana Mshawweh on Saturday discussed with the officials in charge of the Omani National Museum ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and Oman.

The minister toured the sections of museum which contains 14 galleries exhibiting a large number of antiquities and artifacts. She was briefed by Dr. Mona bint Fahd Al Said, the Chairperson of the Museum’s  Board of Trustees, on the historical importance and value of these collections of antiquities.

“The museum displays artifacts dating back to different historical eras. It is an important educational center for visitors and researchers alike and one of the most prominent landmarks and modern cultural institutions in Oman,” Dr. Mona said.

On the sidelines of her visit to the museum, the minister met with museum’s Secretary Jamal Al-Mousawi and discussed with him modern methods of display and the current cooperation between the National Museum of Oman and the Syrian Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.

It is to be noted that the Syrian antiquities were a valued addition to the Oman National Museum.  Around 175 archeological artifacts were displayed after being restored and preserved using up-to-date methods at Oman museum’s laboratories.

An exhibition to display a number of these artifacts is also due to be organized today.
