Syria Lost Great Loyal Friend By Fidel Castro’s Death: Sousan

The late Fidel Castro was a great friend of many countries all over the world and his passing was described as a ‘sad news’ by several world leaders who said: ” Goodbye commandant.”

Today, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates offered condolences at the house of Cuba’s Ambassador in Damascus over the passing of the Cuban former President Fidel Castro Friday night.

Dr. Ayman Sousan visited the house of the Cuban Ambassador in Damascus and wrote a note in the book of condolences, according to the official news agency (SANA).

The agency reported that the Syrian official told reporters: ” Cuba and humanity lost one of the symbols of liberation and resistance against hegemony and arrogance by the death of the great leader Fidel Castro.”

 Sousan added that Syria lost a great and loyal friend to the Syrian people who was supporting its causes toward the Zionist aggression and terrorist one.

“Castro had represented- throughout his long process of struggle- the greatness of leadership and steadfastness of freedom fighter. So, he will remain a source of inspiration for all freedom fighters seeking an end to hegemony, injustice and subjugation all over the world,” he asserted.

On his part, Cuba’s Ambassador in Damascus Rogerio Manuel Santana Rodriguez said the great leader Fidel Castro’s principles and his defense of freedom, humanity, sovereignty and independence are source of pride to the Cubans.

“I think that Syria’s victory over terrorism will commemorate Fidel because he had wished Syria’s triumph in the ongoing war against terrorism,” he added.

Cuba’s Embassy in Damascus announced the opening of the book of condolences for the late revolutionary leader Fidel Castro as of Monday till next Sunday [December 4th].

World Leaders Reacts to Fidel Castro’s Passing

Tributes from around the world poured in after the death of legendary Cuban.

Syria

President Bashar al-Assad said in a condolences cable sent Saturday: “The name Fidel Castro will remain etched in the minds of all generations, as an inspiration for all the peoples seeking true independence and liberation from the yoke of colonization and hegemony.”

Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin described Castro as a “sincere and reliable friend of Russia” in a telegram to Cuban President Raul Castro, Fidel’s brother who took over leadership of the country in 2006.

“The name of this distinguished statesman is rightly considered the symbol of an era in modern world history,” Putin said.

China

China’s President Xi Jinping said that the “Chinese people have lost a close comrade and a sincere friend. Comrade Castro will live forever. History and people will remember him.”

Venezuela

Venezuelan  President Nicolas Maduro said the news of Castro’s death had “hit hard.”

“With all our solidarity and all our love and condolences and the sorrow of the revolutionaries and of the Venezuelan Chavista patriots. To the people of Cuba: I spoke to Raul and I shared with him the pain we are feeling. It was a hard hit for all the revolutionaries, the revolutionaries of the world,” Maduro told broadcaster Telesur in an interview.

India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on his Twitter account that Fidel Castro “was one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century.”

Iran

The Iranian foreign minister praised Castro as an exemplary figure “in the fight against colonialism and exploitation… and the independence-seeking fight of oppressed nations.”

The Pope

Pope Frances described Castro’s demise as “sad news.” He added that he was grieving and praying for Castro’s “repose.”

Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed grief over Castro’s death, saying, “It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving president.”

“Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation… I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro,” Trudeau said.

Mexico

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on his Twitter account, “Fidel Castro was a friend of Mexico, promoting bilateral relations based on respect, dialogue and solidarity.”

Spain

Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy described Castro as “a figure of enormous historical importance.”

Greek

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras also tweeted, “Goodbye, commandant. Until the peoples’ eternal victory.”

Castro, who was born in 1926 in Cuba, was imprisoned in 1953 after leading a rising against Batist’s regime. He was released in 1955 under an amnesty deal. In 1956, he started struggle along with Che Guevara against the government of Batista. In 1959 he defeated Batista and took power in Cuba.
