Syria, Lebanon hold positive talks on essential issues

DAMASCUS, JAN.11, (ST)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, As’ad Al-Shibani describes today’s meeting with the Lebanese delegation as “positive”.

Al-Shibani said: “We received Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Foreign Minister Abdullah Bo Habib….The meeting was positive and we discussed essential topics that are in the interest of both countries.”

“This visit comes as a culmination of the Arab role in supporting the Syrian people at all levels, and strengthens the strategic relations between our two countries. Syria and Lebanon are neighboring countries, linked by cultural and social ties. The stability of Syria will have positive effect on Lebanon…,” he added.

The minister went on to say: “We discussed with our brothers the importance of Syria’s role in strengthening Arab positions and supporting stability and security in the region, and we stressed that Syria today will move with the determination of its people towards rebuilding all fields, as the previous regime left us with a collapsed state and an obsolete institutional system.”

He concluded by saying: “It was agreed to return all Syrian detainees from Lebanese prisons, secure the borders on both sides, and cooperate in combatting drugs trafficking and following up on the issue of Syrians’ money stuck in Lebanese banks, as well as forming joint committees at all political, security, military and economic levels.”
