DAMSCUS, (ST) – Syria is keen to establish strategic partnership with UN organizations and institutions, underscored Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi.
The Premier’s remarks were made on Monday as he met Yacoub al-Helo, the Resident Representative of the UN Development Program and Coordinator of UN Humanitarian Aid in Syria.
“The political solution is the only safe way out of the crisis in Syria through implementing the political program approved by the government to launch dialogue on the Syrian land and without any foreign interference or dictates,” al-Halqi said, pointing out that this doesn’t contradict Syria’s decision to attend the international conference on Syria (Geneva2) without preconditions.
The Premier affirmed that the Syrian government provides relief and humanitarian assistance to all Syrian citizens without exceptions in order to alleviate the suffering caused to them by the regionally and internationally-backed armed terrorist and Takfiri groups.
“Before the crisis, the Syrian economy was booming in all domains and UN programs prove this development, but organized terrorism targeted the country’s economic and service institutions, particularly those with high competitiveness at the world level, al-Halqi said.
For his part, al-Helo hoped that reason and wisdom will prevail to solve the crisis in Syria, stressing that the “call for war is a losing adventure” and that “Syria will surpass the crisis thanks to the strong determination of its people”.
He affirmed that the United Nations always seeks coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government to implement sustainable development programs and convey humanitarian assistance, pointing out that although the workers in the humanitarian filed are being targeted and endangered, they continue their relief tasks with great readiness to sacrifice to save Syria.
Prospects of cooperation between Syria and the UNDP, in addition to ways of facilitating procedures to enhance cooperation in providing relief and humanitarian assistance under the ongoing circumstances, were discussed during the meeting.
