Head of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, Engineer Mohammad Ayman Al-Molwi, along with members of the Board of Directors, discussed with a delegation of Jordanian businessmen, headed by the President of the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce, Nael Kabareti, prospects of economic, investment, and trade cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides discussed the obstacles facing the flow of goods, transportation, and transit between the countries, as well as the high fees related to logistical operations, such as port charges and others, which affect the competitiveness of Syrian goods.
They stressed the need to work on facilitating the transport of Syrian goods arriving through the Port of Aqaba.
Several members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors emphasized the need to reduce customs fees on trucks to enhance bilateral trade, increase exports, allow Syrian vehicles to transport goods into Jordan, work on reactivating previously signed agreements between the two countries, and expand cooperation in various fields, including benefiting from Jordan’s agreements with European countries regarding the export of ready-made garments through partnerships.
The Jordanian delegation, which included a group of investors representing private companies specializing in maritime services, land transport, construction materials, solar energy, electrical appliances, and other sectors, presented an overview of the support they could offer Syrian industrialists through the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, which spans a large area and is fully equipped to receive Syrian goods and trucks.
Regarding the Jordanian delegation’s meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, Kabareti highlighted the positive atmosphere that prevailed during the meeting and expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President for the opportunity to meet with him.
Kabareti emphasized the importance of joint cooperation between Jordanian industrialists and traders and their Syrian counterparts across all sectors.
He noted the willingness of Jordanian transport and logistics companies to assist in reducing financial burdens and to provide facilities to ease the flow of materials essential to Syrian industries arriving through the Port of Aqaba.
Both sides also expressed optimism about the future of trade relations between Syria and Jordan, stressing the importance of maintaining communication with the concerned authorities in both countries to reactivate agreements and achieve mutual interests that would benefit all parties.
