Syria is committed to joint action to confront health challenges, says Al-Ghabash

Geneva, (ST) – The Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabash affirmed that Syria iscommitted to continue working at the national and regional levels to face health challenges that require joint international action.

In a statement by the Syrian Arab Republic yesterday, Minister Al-Ghabash said before the 151st session of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization, held in Geneva, that while the Corona epidemic is still continuing in the countries of the world, new health risks loom on the horizon in a number of countries, and other countries are suffering from crises. “This matter threatens the global health system, which calls for taking the necessary measures to reduce the suffering caused by these conditions”, he added.

Minister Al-Ghubash indicated that inequalities and structural gaps have led to disparities in access to economic, social and health rights for all peoples of the world during the response to the Corona epidemic, especially in developing countries.

The Minister of Health welcomed the efforts made by the World Health Organization in the field of epidemic preparedness and response, including the formation of the intergovernmental negotiating body. He stressed the need to reach an instrument that complements the existing instruments and avoids the gaps left by the Corona epidemic, and the need to include the principles of fairness and equality in the expected text.

Al-Ghabash said that, we welcome the efforts made to achieve sustainable financing for the World Health Organization to enhance its independence.
