GOVERNORATES,(ST)-Hama Chamber of Agriculture declaired that 1,200 tons of peeled pistachio and 1,836 tons of unshelled pistachio were exported to several Arab and European countries in the current season with a total value estimated at SYP 3 billion.
Head of the Chamber, Khaled Merei Qasem, told SANA reporter that all the exported amounts of pistachio were of a high quality and specifications, which was made evident through the growing demand for the Syrian product during the current season.
He explained “all pistachio shipments were accurately examined to make sure that they are free from mycotoxins to preserve the international reputation of the product”.
Qasem continued that Hama came first in pistachio production in Syria with 22,000 tons, estimating the total number of pistachio trees in the province at 3,318,000, of which 2,844,000 are fruitful trees.
He called upon farmers to be cautious during the product storage process before exportation through monitoring temperatures and keeping the product in ventilated warehouses.
Syria is among the top countries in pistachio production in the world, with the Syrian pistachio ranked first in terms of quality and nutritional value.
