DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has been confronting a global terrorist aggression over the past five years and it is not easy for any country to withstand such a war on its army and people, Ali Akbar Velayati, Senior Advisor of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran told journalists upon his arrival in Damascus on Friday.
Velayati, who reiterated Iran’s support for the Syrian leadership, army and people, said “Syria is the corner stone of the resistance front…experience has proved that Syria is a resistant country with brave people and wise leader.”
The Iranian official pointed out that successive political developments at the regional and international levels necessitate that the Syrian and Iranian officials should meet continuously for consultation and coordination on how to deal with these developments.
“President Al-Assad has managed over the past years to lead Syria cleverly, bravely and wisely and he will surely lead the country to the shore of safety,” Velayati added.
He affirmed that bilateral ties between the two countries will keep being strategic and distinguished.
In a similar statement to SANA, Deputy Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Fayssal al-Mikdad said “Syria, Iran, and their allies in the Russian Federation and other countries are on the verge of a major victory,” describing Syria’s relations with Iran as strategic.
“Syria has repeatedly stressed that political solution is the best way to solve the crisis in Syria, but the terrorist groups, in addition to Riyadh opposition delegation and the governments of Ankara, Doha, and Riyadh aren’t working to help achieve this goal,” al-Mikdad said, noting that “such governments don’t deserve to be partners in solving the crisis in Syria.”
He pointed out that the armed groups are violating the cessation of hostilities agreement upon orders from their masters who were disturbed by the victories being achieved by the Syrian Army. However, despite this terrorist escalation, Syria keeps being committed to its international obligations and will continue to respect the truce in Aleppo or in any other Syrian area.
