Syria, Iraq discuss ways of enhancing trade exchange

DAMASCUS, May.2, (ST)-The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Mohsen Abdul Karim Ali, discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghariri, and the accompanying delegation, ways of enhancing cooperation and trade exchange in a way that serves the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.

The Iraqi Minister of Trade indicated that the visit to Syria aims at enhancing trade cooperation and expanding horizons between the two sides, expressing great ambition to increase cooperation based on common geography and history.

Al-Ghariri referred to the great determination of the Iraqi side to promote high-quality Syrian products in the Iraqi markets, indicating the existence of a plan to establish huge commercial complexes in Iraq in which various Syrian products will be promoted.

For his part, Ali affirmed the readiness of the Syrian side for cooperation to market the products of the two countries in Syria and Iraq, whether in terms of agricultural or Syrian-manufactured materials, in both public and private sectors, and to overcome all obstacles that hinder the development of trade exchange to the highest levels.

He said that the Iraqi delegation’s visit will have positive results in increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed the necessary approvals for signing a protocol in the field of industrial property protection rights, and another one in the field of the Competition and Monopoly Authority.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue communication with the aim of implementing the agreements that were discussed on the ground.
