Syria, Iraq Discuss Reactivating Trade Exchange, Coordination to Reopen Border Crossings

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Iraq to Syria Sa’ad Mohammad Reda on Monday discussed activating trade exchange, and coordination to reopen border crossings between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed reactivating the Syrian-Iraqi joint committee, holding a businessmen forum and enhancing cooperation in the reconstruction era.

The premier noted the importance of creating more opportunities for economic cooperation and of benefiting from the two countries’ huge potentials. He hailed the sacrifices offered by the peoples of the two countries as to maintain their sovereignty and independence and to fight all forms of terrorism.

 He stressed the importance of the wide participation of Iraqi businessmen and companies in the coming Damascus International Fair which, he said, is a chance to expand trade exchange, to introduce the Iraqi products to the Syrians and to boost the opportunities of the Syrian products’ entry to the Iraqi markets.

On his part, the Iraqi Ambassador said “the time has become suitable to give the economic relations a push forward, to reactivate the role of the private industrial, trade and investment sectors and to consolidate cooperation in the reconstruction era.”
