Syria, Iraq Discuss Cooperation on Terrorism Fighting

BAGHDAD, (ST)-Syria and Iraq are fighting in the same battle against the terrorism which is hitting the Syrian and Iraqi people under the guise of religion and with evident support by Arab and regional countries, Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham said during his meeting on Monday with Iraq’s Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.

Al-Lahham-Al-Abadi talks, held on the sideline of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC) conference, dealt with ways of enhancing the Syrian-Iraqi ties and reactivating cooperation in all fields, especially combating terrorism.

Al-Lahham stressed that cooperation and coordination between the two countries have played notable role in eliminating terrorists and cutting their supply routes with the help of the Russian air force.

The PA Speaker referred to the dangerous role played by the Turkish regime to support terrorism, interfere in the internal affairs of Syria and Iraq, destabilize the two countries and steal the Syrian and Iraqi oil in cooperation with the terrorists of the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIL, ISIS or Daesh).

Al-Abadi, on his part, said the ongoing tragic events taking place in the Arab countries aim to divert attention away from the Israeli occupation’s crimes being committed against the Palestinians. He urged a responsible unified Arab stance towards the border-crossing takfiri terrorism the danger of which will target all.

The Iraqi premier hailed the achievements attained by the Syrian Arab Army in its battle against terrorism, affirming that the Iraqi army is also achieving very notable gains in the fight against terrorist organizations, particularly “Daesh”.

He criticized the behavior of some regional countries which claim that they are fighting terrorism while, in fact, they are adopting the same terrorist takfiri ideology and trying to stir up conflicts and chaos in neighboring countries.
