Syria, Iran to enhance cooperation in the sectors of economy and services

Damascus, (ST) – The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade in the caretaker government Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil discussed with the Mayor of Tehran Ali Reza Zakani and the accompanying delegation means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy and services.

During a meeting held today at the ministry building in Damascus, Al-Khalil stressed the importance of developing cooperation in the economic and various services fields and the possibility of joint coordination to establish projects that serve the interests of the two friendly countries.

The meeting reviewed the possibility of holding product exhibitions in both countries that reflect the nature of material and cultural production of each country in the other, in an effort to develop joint trade relations and transfer knowledge.

The participants in the meeting also discussed the necessity of exchanging expertise on some projects and areas of common interest.

Governor of Damascus countryside, Mayor of Tehran discuss cooperation

During a meeting earlier today with the Mayor of Tehran, Ali Reza Zakani, the Governor of Damascus countryside, Ahmad Khalil discussed means of developing relations and deepening joint cooperation in the services and economic sectors.

He also discussed means of benefiting from Tehran’s experiences in the transportation sector and solid waste treatment, to contribute to the reconstruction of the province.

During the meeting, held in the governorate building, Khalil noted the damage inflicted on Damascus countryside as a result of the terrorist war on Syria, which affected the governorate’s infrastructure, service, health and economic institutions, industrial facilities and agricultural lands, which requires providing many capabilities snd potentials to rebuild them in the light of the economic siege and unjust sanctions on Syria, which negatively affected all aspects of life.

Khalil stressed that government agencies have worked over the past years to rehabilitate service institutions and main infrastructure, to help the people of Damascus countryside continue their agricultural and economic activities and return the displaced to their areas.

He noted the importance of cooperation with Tehran Municipality to contribute to the reconstruction of the governorate, especially with regard to providing fuel, which is the basis of work for various facilities and sectors.

Khalil also reviewed the resources and advantages that Damascus countryside possesses, including its agricultural, tourist, economic and cultural wealth, in addition to its vast area.

For his part, the Governor of Damascus Mohammad Tariq Krishati referred to the importance of the common issues discussed between the governorates of Damascus and Damascus countryside and Tehran Municipality and the importance of  laying the foundations for enhancing areas of cooperation and joint work and determining priorities for their achievement to bring economic and service relations to the level of political relations between the two countries.

For his part, Zakani stressed the readiness of the Tehran Municipality to provide all support for Damascus Countryside Governorate in its reconstruction; given the great extent of the destruction it suffered as a result of terrorism. He expressed the Tehran Municipality’s keenness to learn about the governorate’s priorities to determine the steps of cooperation.

Zakani clarified that the Tehran Municipality has great capabilities in the fields of transportation, solid waste treatment and communications development and it can help in training and partnership with Damascus Countryside Governorate to implement various works and projects.
