Syria, Iran to enhance cooperation in the field of environment protection

Damascus, (ST) – Engineer Hussein Makhlouf, Minister of Local Administration and Environment, discussed with Hussein Akbari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, areas of cooperation between the two countries and means of enhancing them in all fields, especially environment protection and the firefighting sector.

Makhlouf stressed the importance of the friendship and brotherhood relations between the two countries and peoples, hailing Iran’s permanent support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and in response to the earthquake disaster that struck Syria last February. He pointed to the continuation of cooperation in the field of extinguishing fires.

Makhlouf stressed the importance of coordination with the Iranian side, especially after the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of environment protection.

He also stressed the importance of holding the international conference to combat the phenomenon of dust and soil in Tehran next month.

For his part, Akbari pointed to the continuation of joint work and coordination of efforts to create a suitable environment for developing and advancing bilateral cooperation relations, especially in the environmental field. He pointed to the importance of the International Conference on Combating the Phenomenon of Dust which will be hosted by Iran next September with the participation of Syria. “This conference which constitutes an opportunity to discuss environmental issues and efforts to mitigate the negative effects of climate change”, Akbari added.
