Syria, Iran to enhance bilateral relations in various fields

Damascus, (ST) – Prime Minister Hussein Arnous met with Chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Vahid Jalalzadeh and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed means of enhancing relations between the two countries in various economic and energy fields.

The two sides also discussed the need to redouble efforts to enhance the relations to the highest level. They focused on practical measures taken to implement the understandings and agreements reached during Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to Syria recently, and his meeting with President Bashar Al-Assad, as well as the efforts of the two countries in achieving stability in the region.

Arnous referred to the strategic and historical relations between the two friendly countries that face the same challenges, whether terrorism or the unjust siege, and the need to raise levels of coordination and joint action to confront the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the peoples of the two countries. He pointed to the importance of the role of the legislative institutions in both Syria and Iran because they represent true democracy that stems from the interests of the two peoples.

The Prime Minister referred to what Syria is exposed to in terms of theft of its national wealth, US-Western support for terrorism, separatist militias and Israeli attacks. He stressed that all this will not discourage Syria from its national stances, its adherence to its rights, its independent national decision, and its strong and deep-rooted relations with brotherly and friendly countries that stood by it in the war facing various challenges.

For his part, Jalalzadeh described the Iranian-Syrian relations as vital, and thanked Syria for its stances in support of Iran and its just causes. He stressed that his country will continue to stand by Syria in order to ease the burdens on the Syrian people as a result of the unjust siege imposed on them.

Jalalzadeh said that the Syrian people, who have defeated terrorism and its supporters, are able to win the economic battle. He added: The will of the people will overcome the will of the aggressors.
