DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis and the Special Assistant of the Iranian Shura Council Hussein Amir Abdullahian on Wednesday discussed enhancing bilateral relations and boosting cooperation on political and economic issues. Both sides affirmed the importance of coordination between the two sides at the regional and international levels.
Khamis expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation over Iran’s support for the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war. He hailed the victories achieved by the Syrian army in the battle against terrorism thanks to cooperation between Syria, its friendly countries and resistance.
The premier affirmed that Syria has been open from the very beginning to all initiatives aiming to find a political solution to the crisis without conceding national principles.
The Syrian people’s awareness about the terrorist nature of the ongoing war and their support for their army and leader have been the main elements of the strength of the Syrian state, said the Khamis.
He stressed the importance of having a new vision for building strategic economic relations that embody the aspiration of the leaderships of the two countries and that include boosting trade exchange, launching new investments, reactivating the Syrian-Iranian joint higher committee and activating the role of the private sector in establishing a solid economic structure that benefits the peoples of both countries.
On his part, Abdullahian asserted his country’s firm support for the Syrian government and people until they achieve victory over terrorism. He clarified that coordination and cooperation continues between the two countries as to enhance their regional and international stances.
He hailed the victories achieved by the Syrian army and resistance the latest of which was the victory in Arsal barrens.
He expressed the keenness of the Iranian government on drawing new horizons and a effective strategy for stronger economic relations.
Earlier on Wednesday, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem met Abdullahian and discussed with him distinguished relations between Syria and Iran as well as political developments in Syria and the region in the light of the recent achievements made by the Syrian Arab army in cooperation with its allies and friends in the battle against terrorism.
View points of the two officials were identical regarding the need to enhance the strong bilateral ties, including in the parliamentary field and regarding the continuity of the two countries’ joint efforts to fight terrorism and eliminate the terrorist organizations.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad and several officials at the foreign ministry.
