Syria, Iran sign a deal to rehabilitate “Mhardeh” power station

DAMASCUS, (ST)_The Ministry of Electricity and the Iranian “Bemanir” Company signed on Tuesday a deal for rehabilitating ‘Mhardeh’ Power station with the capacity of 576 megawatt (MW) at the cost of Euro 99.5 million. 
 
In a speech he made after signing the deal, the Minister of Electricity  Ghassan Al-Zamel said that the rehabilitation works will be completed in 26 months.  
 
“This is the first time we sign a deal with the Iranian company, and there will be a special team to follow up the work,” he added, pointing out that all power stations that were damaged by terrorism will return to be into service gradually through signing contracts with companies, which are active in rehabilitation works. 
 
For his part, the Director of Power Stations in the Ministry of Electricity Mahmod Ramadan said that all damaged parts in the “Mhardeh” station will be either changed or repaired. 
 
The Director of the Iranian company Javad Khwansary asserted the readiness to cooperate with the Syrian side to rehabilitate the station. 
The power station of Mhardeh had been targeted for many times by terrorist groups and it had become out of service.
