Syria, Iran hold talks on oil and gas cooperation

Syria’s Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Bassam Tohme and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Sayyed Reza Fatemi Amin on Monday discussed cooperation relations between the two countries in the fields of oil, gas and mineral resources.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation particularly in the field of making cars work by natural gas (CNG) and securing the needs of the Syrian oil sector of chemicals and oil equipment. Focus was also put on cooperation in the fields of geology and mineral resources through reactivating the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the geology establishments of Syria and Iran and through exchanging Syrian mineral resources products for the country’s needs of domestic gas and base oil from Iran.

Tohme said that many Memos and agreements, signed between the two countries, have come into force and their implementation is being followed up, pointing out that the ideas that were put forward can form the base for broader cooperation that serves the advancement of the oil industry in Syria and the mutual benefit of the two countries.

On his part, the Iranian minister expressed his country’s keenness on enhancing its relations with Syria in all fields, particularly oil, gas and mineral resources in a way that serves the mutual interests of both sides, stressing that Iran will spare no effort in continuing to provide all forms of support for the Syrian people.

The two sides also agreed on holding more talks on implementing cooperation projects.
