Tehran (ST) – The Syrian delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Samer Al-Khalil, discussed during its meeting in Tehran on Monday with an Iranian delegation, led by the Minister of Roads and Cities Construction Mehrdad Bazrpash, the implementation of agreements and memorandums that resulted from the visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Damascus.
They also discussed the mechanism of expanding relations in the economic, investment, and other fields to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples, in addition to reviewing the measures taken and those to be taken to put what was agreed upon into practical implementation.
Minister Al-Khalil stated that the visit aims to follow up the agreements and understandings between Syria and Iran, and to achieve economic cooperation in line with the interests of the two countries.
He noted that many steps have been taken in the field of banking cooperation, tourism, transport and free trade.
Minister Al-Khalil stated that land and sea transit lines have been established between the two countries through Iraq, which contributes to reducing the period and costs of transporting goods, and the number of sea vessels between the two countries has also been increased with the aim of stimulating commercial movement.
For his part, Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash indicated that an agreement had been reached with Syria to abolish customs tariffs on exports and imports between the two countries, which would enable merchants to export and import goods without paying any customs fees.
He stressed the high speed of implementing the agreements between Iran and Syria and taking positive measures in the field of insurance and the establishment of the joint bank and the joint insurance company.
Minister Bazrpash pointed to the facilities that were provided to increase the number of the Iranian tourists wishing to visit Syria, saying that important understandings have been reached to develop land, sea and air cooperation.
He revealed the conclusion of positive agreements in the field of transport between the two sides, where it was decided to strengthen the port infrastructure in Iran and Syria.
It was also decided to quickly strengthen the transit route between Iran, Iraq and Syria, as controls were put in place in this area.
