DAMASCUS, (ST)- Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi and Director General of the “Doctors without Borders” in Iran Mohammad Hasan Niknam on Monday discussed health cooperation between Syria and Iran, particularly in the areas of training medical staff and providing mobile clinics to Syria.
The Premier stressed the importance of activating the role that can be played by international health organizations within war circumstances and natural disasters to help fight communicable diseases and enhance children’s immunity against illnesses.
He reviewed the repercussions of the terrorist war waged against Syria on the country’s health sector and explained the government’s efforts to restore and develop this sector to help achieve health security.
Al-Halqi thanked the Iranian people and government for their support for the Syrian people to alleviate the impacts of the terrorist war on citizens and help them withstand the unjust western economic siege.
On his part, Nicknam said he was confident that Syria will triumph over terrorism, stressing Iran’s firm support for Syria.
He talked about the activities of Iran’s “Doctors without Borders” in terms of rendering health services, rehabilitation, treatment and providing assistance during wars and disasters.
He appreciated the Syrian government’s efforts to develop the health sector and to meet the requirement of the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the face of the economic siege. He also hailed the victories being achieved by the Syrian army in its battle against terrorism.
In August, 2015, the health ministries of Syria and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on medical cooperation and last month the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on sending medicines, and medical equipments necessary for the Syrian hospitals.
