Syria, Iran discuss cooperation in fields of environment, natural resource management and climate change

TEHRAN, April.28, (ST)-Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran Shafiq Dayoub reviewed on Thursday with the Head of the International Affairs and Conventions Office of the Iranian Department of Environment Hossein Mousavifa ways of enhancing cooperation and exchanging experiences between the two countries in the fields of environment, natural resource management and climate change.
 
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Dayoub said that the environment, drought and the management of natural water and forest resources pose a big challenge to the region and require collective efforts to address it and develop appropriate and scientific solutions to reduce its negative impacts. 
 
He referred to the possibility of updating the agreement signed between Syria and Iran in 2006 in the environmental field.
 
For his part, the Iranian official asserted his country’s determination to establish fruitful and constructive cooperation with Syria in all fields, especially the environmental one.
 
He added that the environmental system requires comprehensive and serious cooperation to avoid the existing and potential risks of climate change.
