Damascus (ST) – The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmed Al-Qadri discussed with Iran’s ambassador to Damascus Javad Turkabadi the prospects for joint cooperation between the two countries in the agricultural areas.
Mr. Al-Qadri reviewed some ideas for cooperation, including the establishment of a plant for the production of foot-and-mouth vaccines and a poultry slaughterhouse with refrigerators to facilitate the marketing of poultry products, especially chicken and helping to establish a fodder factory.
The Minister said that preparations are under way for the implementation of the agreements recently signed with the Iranian side, including the investment of Zahed cattle station in Tartous to develop agricultural scientific research, a plant protection, livestock and fisheries development, in view of Iran’s important activities in this field.
For his part, the Iranian ambassador reviewed the reality of agriculture in his country and its circumstances, stressing Iran’s readiness to provide “all forms of support to Syria in various fields, especially the projectsand agreements which have been signed to be implemented.”
Earlier this year, Syria and Iran signed a five-year agreement on cooperation in the areas of agriculture, livestock, industry, oil and telecommunications.
