TEHRAN, (ST) – Syria and Iran on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on security cooperation including combatting terrorism crimes and fighting the financing of all forms of terrorism.
The memo, which was signed by Minister of Interior Mohammad Ibrahim al-Sha’ar and his Iranian counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in Tehran, provided also for combating organized crimes, for adopting preventive procedures to avoide the perpetration of terrorist crimes and for exchanging data and expertise in this respect.
Cooperation included combating the stealing, the smuggling and the vandalizing of cultural and historical properties, in addition to fighting the crimes of money laundering plus human trafficking and of falsifying financial documents, securities, credit cards and accounts.
The memo provided also for cooperation on internal security and on exchanging information about the citizens of the two countires who committed crimes.
Earlier, al-Sha’ar and Fazli discussed ways of enhancing strategic cooperation relations between Syria and Iran and stressed the importance of continuous coordination between the security forces of both countries as to confront the current challenges facing the entire region represented mainly in the takfiri terrorism and the flow of terrorists in addition to the organized crime, drug and human organs smuggling, illigal immigration and artifact stealing.
The two officials also talked about the tripartite meeting scheduled to be held next week in Baghdad between the interior ministers of Syria, Iran and Iraq as to discuss coordination on fighting terrorism.
