Syria, Iran Are in the Same Trench against US Arrogance, Terrorism

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria and Iran are in the same trench against US arrogance and terrorism and they are working together to establish peace in the region, Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hammoudeh al-Sabbagh has stressed.

The PA Speaker made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with an Iranian parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Chairman of Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Association Ahmad Salek.

Talks during the meeting dealt with developments in the region and ways to enhance Syrian-Iranian parliamentary ties to serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries.

Al-Sabbagh reaffirmed that priority in Syria is given to fighting terrorism, to cleaning the entire Syrian territory from terrorists, to enhancing local reconciliation and to launching reconstruction. He thanked Iran for its firm support for Syria in the face of takfiri terrorism.

Al-Sabbagh condemned the threats made by the US administration and other states against Iran’s  and criticized their attempts to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs, saying that the United States adopts the same stances of the arrogant Israeli occupation and serves its interest.

“America constantly plays a negative role in the region and its statements about the riot and violence incidents in Iran are not strange because the US always interferes in the internal affairs of countries and violates international laws,” he added.

On his part, Salek reiterated the importance of confronting terrorism and the US-backed extremist takfiri wahhabi thinking through cultural awareness and enlightenment in society.

He asserted that his country will continue to support the Syrians in the confrontation of the terrorist war waged against  their country.

Salek hailed the victories being achieved by the Syrian Arab army in the war on terrorism, expressing Iran’s readiness to play a key role in the reconstruction era in Syria.

He pointed out that the United States and the Zionist entity have incited riot acts in some Iranian areas. Several US and Zionist-affiliated cells have tried to stir chaos and violence in Iran, but the Iranian nation managed to control and undermine the sedition, he said.

Prime Minister Imad Khamis also held a meeting with the Iranian delegation during which talks focused on the need to boost bilateral relations and on the Iranian companies’ participation in Syria’s reconstruction process.

The premier stressed that Syria welcomes the participation of various Iranian economic activities in the reconstruction phase, affirming that the Iranian companies will have the priority, and all the measures have been taken to encourage them to participate in Syria’s reconstruction and have access to the Syrian market.
