Syria, Indonesia to Activate Cooperation Relations

DAMASCUS, (ST) – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Hammam al Jazairi and Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Damascus Joko Haryanto discussed ways of activating cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially economic and trade.

The two sides reviewed the possibilities of enhancing the volume of trade, establishment of joint investment  projects, participation in exhibitions to be held in both countries, exchange of trade delegations visits at appropriate times, supporting the private sector and activating its role in the restructuring of the Joint Syrian- Indonesian Business Council.

The minister stressed the importance of restructuring the business council, pointing out “the landmarks of recovery of the Syrian economy began to appear through the improvement in several economic indicators.”

 Dr. al –Jazairi noted the need to take advantage of the Indonesian experience in the field of empowerment of the rural community and its support to be able to contribute to improving the quality of life of the citizens in the countryside.

For his part, the Indonesian ambassador expressed his country’s support for Syria in light of the crisis, calling for the need to explore the prospects of possible cooperation between the two countries with the aim of enhancing them in various fields.

The two sides stressed the importance of continued meetings between the two sides and the coordination between them to overcome all obstacles that prevent the development of cooperation in various fields so as to achieve mutual benefit.

The Minister recently announced that the Syrian economy grew for the first time during the crisis in 2014, the growth based on a gradual recovery in the manufacturing sector and exports, the expansion of the commercial sector, consumer spending and increased investment, which focuses on agricultural and industrial production sectors.
