Syria and Indonesia have agreed to reactive a memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation signed between the Syrian Chamber of Commerce and its Indonesian counterpart in 2018. The two sides also discussed forming a joint businessmen council.
During a meeting on Saturday, Syrian and Indonesian businessmen and trade figures held talks on economic and trade cooperation and on increasing trade exchange, particularly in goods like palm oil, olive oil, electrical equipment and machinery, engines as well as food, medical and paper products.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by the Syrian Charge de Affairs in Jakarta, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdel Moneim Annan, the Economic Attaché in the Syrian Embassy in Jakarta Mohammad Nahed Mahayri as well as representatives of the Syrian Chamber of Commerce. A number of Syrian businessmen also took part in the meeting through video. The Indonesian side was represented by members of the board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce as well as a number of Indonesian businessmen, the Indonesian Ambassador in Damascus Wajid Fauzi and some embassy staff.
The Syrian Charge de Affairs stressed that Syria is now recovering after defeating terrorism and it is re-operating the wheel of production to revive the national economy and rebuild the country. “This will create wide opportunities for production and business sectors in Indonesia to enter the Syrian market and carry out investments in various sectors including in tourism and energy.
Members of the Indonesian side expressed their readiness to discuss more details with the Syrian side on exporting and importing goods that are needed and that have wide category of consumers in both countries.
